How to use this resource?

Prerequisites

You’ll need an Airtable account with access to the relevant base, plus a ChatGPT or Claude account that supports custom MCP connectors. Allow about 10 minutes. No token needs to be copied into the conversation.

1

Set up the demo base

In Airtable, create a base named:

  • GUIDE - Airtable MCP - ACME Demo

Import acme-requests.csv into a table named Requests.

Check that all six references, DEM-001 to DEM-006, are present.

Use only the fictional data provided for this first test.

2

Connect Airtable’s official MCP server

In ChatGPT or Claude, add a custom MCP connector using:

  • Name: Airtable Official

  • URL: https://mcp.airtable.com/mcp

Create the connection, then complete the Airtable OAuth authorization.

Always verify the mcp.airtable.com domain before granting access.

3

Limit access to the demo base

During the Airtable authorization, select only:

  • GUIDE - Airtable MCP - ACME Demo

The connector will use your Airtable account permissions to read or update this base.

Do not authorize every base when the connector only needs one.

4

Verify the connection in read-only mode

Ask the assistant to inspect the base without changing anything:

  • Confirm access to the Requests table

  • Count the records

  • List the available fields

  • Do not modify any data

The expected result is a table containing six records.

Do not allow any write until the base, table, and returned data are correct.

5

Make one controlled update

Ask the assistant to prepare an update to DEM-001:

  • Status: To qualify → In progress

  • Next action: Schedule a 45-minute scoping workshop

Before any write, require a clear before-and-after preview and an explicit confirmation step.

After the update, reopen DEM-001 directly in Airtable.

An assistant response is not proof of completion. Always verify the saved values directly in Airtable.
